Solar farm

India completes its first solar park

Inaugurated in 2012 by the then Chief Minister of Gujarat Narendra Modi, it was home to about 250 MW capacity initially. In April 2012, a total of 214 megawatts had been commissioned. It also became the world’s third largest photovoltaic power station. 345 MW had been installed by March 2016. So far, the park has witnessed investments of Rs 5,365 crore and generated 3,441 million units till date.

The city of Kingston is founded in Jamaica

Kingston was founded in July 1693 after the earthquake that devastated Port Royal in 1692, the original section of the city which was situated at the bottom of the Liguanea Plains was laid out to house survivors of the earthquake. Kingston is now the capital and largest city of Jamaica.

Diego de Losada founds Caracas

On 25 July 1567, Captain Diego de Losada laid the foundations of the city of Santiago de León de Caracas. Caracas is now the capital and largest city of Venezuela.

Helsinki

King Gustav I of Sweden founds Helsinki

Helsinki was established as a trading town by King Gustav I of Sweden in 1550 as the town of Helsingfors, which he intended to be a rival to the Hanseatic city of Reval (today known as Tallinn). It is now the capital and most populous city of Finland.
